Song Details[edit | edit source]

Composition and Recording[edit | edit source]

"I'll Miss You" was written by Gene Ween,[2] who also sings the lead vocals. Ed Wilson plays bass and lap steel guitar on the song.[3] Wilson described the recording of this song as "one of the most wonderful days of my life. Ween and I were really tight back then."[4]

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

Ween played "I'll Miss You" live a small number of times in the years following its release (beginning with an informal debut with the Jimmy Wilson Group), but had stopped playing it by 2003.[5] Following that, Gene Ween began playing the song at solo shows, and did so fairly often through the late 2000s, both solo acoustic and with the Gene Ween Band.[6] Following Ween's hiatus and reunion, they began playing the song again on an occasional basis.[7]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

It could rain for a thousand days

Or something I don't know

Look to the sun and we're having fun

Beside the river flow

You're doing this and you're doing that

Workin' all the time

Tonight you'll call me on the phone

You've got a worried mind

And when you leave

You'll go away

Gone to stay

Don't feel so bad

It was nice what we had

You'll be glad

I'll miss you

There's a moon and it's bright tonight

The sun has gone away

Stop the sweat and I'll feel alright

You know I like it this way

You're packin' stuff for your big, big move

In just a couple of days

You'll be off on you're big, big cruise

Across the USA

And when you leave

You'll go away

Gone to stay

Don't feel so bad

It was nice what we had

You'll be glad

I'll miss you

I'll miss you

I'll miss you
