"Boys Club" is a song by Ween. Originally a Mollusk outtake[1], it was later released on the 2005 odds-and-ends compilation Shinola, Vol. 1.

Song Details[edit | edit source]

"Boys Club" was the very first Ween song recorded with keyboardist Glenn McClelland, during late sessions for The Mollusk in 1997.[1][2] A rough mix of "Boys Club" from the sessions first surfaced around June 2000, and has widely circulated since.[3] It would later be remixed for Shinola, Vol. 1 in 2005. This version has a re-recorded keyboard part.

The vocals are sung by Gene Ween, with notable use of Tape Speed Manipulation. The lead vocal has been noted as sounding like Michael McDonald of the Doobie Brothers,[4][5] an artist Gener had previously impersonated on "Sing Like Michael McDonald, the Guy From the Doobie Brothers" in 1988.

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

The song was not played live until after the release of Shinola, and even then only rarely. However, the song has come into more regular live rotation following the 2016 Ween reunion. It was briefly teased during a 1999 concert.[6]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Boys club (yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah)
Boys club (ooh, yeah)
Boys club (mmm-hmm)
Boys club (yeah)
Boys club (doo-doo-doo, baby, now)
Boys club (yeah)
Boys club (said I'm talkin' 'bout boys club)
Boys club

Take the time, have some fun
Go outside, make love in the sun, at boys club
Boys club (oh now, yeah-yeah)
Boys club (oh now, talkin' 'bout boys club)
Boys club (can you dig it? Boys club)
Boys club

Tell your woman, tell your man
Go somewhere, that you've got to understand, it's boys club

Boys club (and I'll know they'll understand)
Boys club (oh yeah, talkin' 'bout boys club)
Boys club (mmm, hmm)
Boys club (come on, babe, come on, babe)

You can talk of the future, you can talk of the past
You can go find yourself a nice piece of ass at boys club

Boys club (come on down to boys club)
Boys club (ooh yeah, talkin' 'bout boys club)
Boys club (boys club)
Boys club

Now I may not be gay, and I may not be proud
But it don't matter, 'cause I'm always allowed at the boys club

Boys club (yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah)
Boys club (ooh yeah, talkin' 'bout boys club)
Boys club (come on, baby)
Boys club
Boys club
Boys club (ooh yeah, talkin' 'bout boys club)
Boys club
Boys club (doo-doo-doo, baby, now)
Boys club
Boys club
