Song Details[edit | edit source]

The lead vocals are sung by Gene Ween. Glenn McClelland plays the bass and keyboards. Uniquely on The Friends EP, the song is credited as being produced by Ween. It was recorded and mixed by Greg Frey.[1]

Ween began playing "Light Me Up" live in the fall of 2005, over a year and a half before the song's release on The Friends EP; they played the song quite commonly for about three years after that. Since then, they have continued to play the song on a more occasional basis.[2] In addition, Gene Ween has played "Light Me Up" numerous times at solo acoustic shows.[3]

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

Another day, another trick
Gotta sell that shit off quick
It's about supply and demand
Money's falling from the sky
I collect before you die
Ain't no tear fall from my eye

Light me up before you kill me
Cause I ain't going down without a fight my friend
The situation's got me up and reeling
And I don't think I'm ever gonna die

The situation's gone astray
Everybody wants to play
Play with fire but not get burned
There's a tiger in my heart
On these streets I tear apart
Anybody in my way

Light me up before you kill me
Cause I ain't going down without a fight my friend
The situation's got me up and reeling
And I don't think I'm ever gonna die

Got connections in the west
I got threads man of the best
Designer shit you've ever seen
I'm a freakin' man of steel
I got loads of sex appeal
Do you wanna make a deal?

Light me up before you kill me
Cause I ain't going down without a fight my friend
The situation's got me up and reeling
And I don't think I'm ever gonna die
And I don't think I'm ever gonna die
I don't think I'm ever gonna die
