Main Page redesign
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>User:WeInTheUSA/sandbox<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
I've made a front page redesign, just as requested in the "How Can I Help" section. Check it out and let me know what you think --WeInTheUSA (talk) 01:32, 13 December 2024 (UTC)
Account Creation Disabled
Why was account creation disabled? If Mr. Plump can shed light that’d be nice…. --Chunky7453 (talk) 00:35, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
Discord server? / Community portal
So the archive legacy Discord server disappeared a week or so ago. Is there an alternative server up for discussing Wiki/archive stuff? $20 (talk) 20:16, 23 January 2026 (UTC)
--Thefakemrsmoltz (talk) 09:54, 26 January 2026 (UTC) Personally I think using the talk pages here is a better way to communicate with each other, it keeps everything transparent and relevant. I'm more than happy to do it that way for the time being anyway.
--Thefakemrsmoltz (talk) 10:02, 26 January 2026 (UTC) Also, the fact that nobody wants to be responsible for starting another Discord server should probably tell us something about whether it's the best idea or not. But if somebody does want to try, I'm not gonna interfere. Just keep in mind if it's a dedicated wiki server, all wiki editors need to be able to access it, you can't just ban people you don't like. One way around that might be to not have any off-topic or social channels, but in that case I still think we'd be better off just using the talk pages on the wiki.
--Thefakemrsmoltz (talk) 10:15, 26 January 2026 (UTC) Speaking of Discord. If we're gonna cite Discord messages on the wiki, can we start using screenshots instead of the actual links, which could disappear at any time? I'm talking about Discord servers with a public password, not actual private servers or DMs. I'm hestitant to say there should be a blanket rule against using Discord as a source, because I don't really think that's necessary for a wiki this size. But if you're not comfortable with the screenshots idea, I would seriously question whether the information needs to be made public in the first place.
Chunky7453 - considering the reasoning behind the server being deleted i don´t think i can trust anyone of that same clique to start a new one (No shade...) discord is fucked with weird mod complex silliness and just other assorted nonsense. I´m with you on that 100%. I always thought discord as a source was kinda weird. But considering Arin´s presence and the kind of flippant info given out all the time there it was understandable in a kind of dead end way. My use of the server was more just to gauge what attention should be pointed to. And if we´re being real, most passive editors would rather use discord than rummage through the talk pages. The less tech-literate ween youth... like me... I think we cut ourselves off from some good discussion by not having a server. If anyone wants to discuss it my discord is chunky7453
--Thefakemrsmoltz (talk) 18:54, 26 January 2026 (UTC) I'm not gonna get involved, someone can start a new server if they want to, in the meantime the talk pages are here and everyone can still make edits. Either way, everything on the wiki needs to have a traceable source that can be accessed *from* the public wiki page by anyone reading it. Transparency is really the only way that a wiki has any credibility. It's not gonna be perfect all at once, but that's what we should be aiming for.
Personally I'm more on board with keeping discussion on the Wiki-side than just getting a new server then. Talk pages are fine for me, maybe implementing a | community portal-type thing would be cool if possible on MediaWiki - only if it's worth it tho (the low amount of recent activity doesn't necessitate it). Better than risking losing information/swaths of impermanent data from a simple server deletion. :^) $20 (talk) 01:04, 28 January 2026 (UTC)
--Thefakemrsmoltz (talk) 07:30, 28 January 2026 (UTC) A community bulliten board could be cool, the MediaWiki framework does look way too complicated for our needs though. Actually what would probably be ideal would be just an old school forum-style message board. It would still mean using an external site which is slightly annoying, but it keeps everything very simple, and separate from social media. Proboards is full of ads, but there's other open source platforms like freeflarum (that one allows you to download and back up data which is useful). Let me know if anyone has any thoughts on this, or if you know of any other forum-hosting platforms, I don't really know what else is available. We would need something really basic and free to use, preferable that doesn't involve installing software.
--Chunky7453 (talk) 18:59, 28 January 2026 (UTC) I'm for the forum idea but again, outside of the current group of frequent editors we lose out on the benefits of a more easily accessible entry point to the wiki. I do not see it being a source of proper archival or anything. The last server had the wiki as a kind of sidebar to ween deep-cut shitposting. Like you guys said, the only way it works is complete dedication to the wiki without any of the silliness. If kept as just an extension of the talk pages, I don't see the harm. That might just be some of my naivety. I'll probably start work on one later today... bless
- Actually I noticed when browsing the wiki on mobile view that there is a Community Portal page: https://www.ween.wiki/wiki/Ween:Community_portal Yes it's a dead link for starters.
- Not sure if that could be used as a starting point, but hey it's apparently there. $20 (talk) 00:54, 1 February 2026 (UTC)
SERVER --Chunky7453 (talk) 23:00, 4 February 2026 (UTC) Permanent server invite https://discord.gg/5wzxQjnEwz . I think everyone will be pleased with the structure. If anyone has any qualms with it let me know. Here’s the rules section “ # this server acts as a dedicated hub to discuss work on the Ween Wikipedia. (General wiki discussion) serves as… a general discussion
Anyone can make a forum (Channel page discussion) , for focused work on specific pages.
- Anyone who contributes to the wiki or wishes to make changes is welcome.** All that’s asked is conversation remains civil and on topic.”
