"The Stallion Pt. 3" is a song by Ween from the 1992 album Pure Guava. It is the third installment in the "Stallion" pentalogy.

Song Details[edit | edit source]

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

"The Stallion Pt. 3" is a psychedelic rock song with art and jangle pop elements. Due to tape speed manipulation, the studio version is in the key of C# major, with live performances transposing it down to C major.

The lead vocals are sung by Gene Ween. It is also thought that the guitar solo at the end is played by Gene, as he usually performs it live.[?]

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

Ween played "The Stallion Pt. 3" live as early as July 1991, at an informal show with friends billed as "Green Lipped Mussels". Notably, this was even before the release of Parts 1 and 2 on The Pod. After Ween formally debuted "The Stallion Pt. 3" in early 1993, it immediately became one of the most common live Ween songs, and has remained so ever since. They even reworked it with the country band for the 1996 country tour. In addition, Gene Ween has frequently played the song at solo shows. "The Stallion Pt. 3" is by far the most commonly played live song of the "Stallion" pentalogy.[1]

Two live recordings have been officially released: a version from the White Pepper tour on 7/7/2000 is on Live at Stubb's, and a semi-live sound studio version from 7/22/2003 is on All Request Live.

Lyrics[edit | edit source]

The Pure Guava lyric sheet contains official lyrics in Dean Ween's handwriting:

Mach 10 at sudden speed
Flying into the wind now
I'm flowing at my feet
Something of likeness to u now
I spotted you in the sun
I called your name from a distance
I knew you were the one
I called again
I do declare
I can float in the air
And with some love from above
Don't caress the weasel
And don't fall too soon
Don't seek the blood from the panther
Don't take a trip to you soon
I'm the one helding the time back from the sun as I scope the lobe
I am the one
Who controls the sun
And I know that things will pass
As time elapses
Time elapsing through the sound of you
And the things we could do
Just think of the master
Trying to fool the blastman
Check the cards at the table
Scream softly, you are able
To see the sign of thine self as throughout the ages of time
Things u thought weren't going to climb the mountain
See the sun
Touch the waves of the earth
Feel the grass, softly
And don't think for the one you know
I am screaming backwards in the sand[2]
