"A Tear for Eddie" is an instrumental by Ween from the 1994 album Chocolate and Cheese. It is a tribute to Funkadelic guitarist Eddie Hazel.

"A Tear for Eddie" was written as a eulogy for the guitarist Eddie Hazel.

Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]

Ween composed "A Tear for Eddie" in memory of the guitarist Eddie Hazel of Funkadelic.[1]. Hazel died in December 1992, during the writing process for Chocolate and Cheese.[2] The song is a notable showcase for Dean's lead guitar playing.

"A Tear for Eddie" is in the key of F# minor.

Live Performances[edit | edit source]

Ween began playing "A Tear for Eddie" with the live band in 1994 after the release of Chocolate and Cheese. Since its debut, the song has appeared in live sets from every active year of Ween[3] In addition, "A Tear for Eddie" has been played by Dean Ween multiple times at solo shows and with the Dean Ween Group.[4][5]
