Recording and composition

"Dr. Rock" is a psychedelic hard rock song with glam and punk rock elements. It is in the key of B major.

The lead vocals are sung by Gene Ween, along with Dean Ween on backing vocals, being the one yelling the title every on verse.

"Dr. Rock" appears on the Big Timmy Wasserman demo tape.

Live Performances

Despite being released on 1991's The Pod, "Dr. Rock" is not known to have ever been played live in the DAT-deck era. After its debut with the full band in late 1993, the song rapidly became one of Ween's most reliable concert staples, and has been played at over half of all Ween shows to date.[1] In addition, the Gene Ween Band played the song several times in 2015.[2]

Three live recordings of "Dr. Rock" have been officially released:

Lyrics

I'm tired of modulating and articulating all the feelings that I have for you
Dr. Rock
Help me out for I need to shammy
Dr. Rock
Porker Derek run and get your mammy

There is no denying all you've been supplying is a slathering ball of flesh
Dr. Rock
The lighted path is gonna shine again
Dr. Rock
And I'll let you in with no restrain

(Let's just do it again, hold on)

Don't conceal your tragic flaw
Give the Dr. Rock a call
Dr. Rock
Come quickly to see the scene
Dr. Rock
Got everything that you need

You're the apple of my eye
But with some aid I feel you'll die,
Dr. Rock!
Save the soul from a bottomless pit,
Dr. Rock!
See what you can make of it,
You like the su--
Ahh...

You like the suffocating of a small crustacean as you hammered your way to the truth,
Dr. Rock
Smoking a salmon by an Indian eye,
Knowing all the while that you're going to die,
You're tired of modulating and articulating all the feelings that I have for you,
Dr. Rock
Let me out for I need to shammy,
Dr. Rock!
Quick, Derek run and get your mammy,
Ahh...
