Recording and Composition[edit | edit source]
"Demon Sweat" is a psychedelic art rock song with some ambient elements. The studio version is in the key of A# minor, mostly revolving around the chords of A#m and D#. Live performances are in the key of D minor, transposing them up to Dm and G.
A rough mix of "Demon Sweat" appears on the Bilboa demo tape.
Live Performances[edit | edit source]
Since its live debut in 1992, "Demon Sweat" has been played somewhat regularly over the years. In addition, Gene Ween has frequently played the song at solo acoustic shows, and with his band Freeman.[1] Live performances are notable for usually having Gener play keyboards.
Two live performances have been officially released: a version from 12/9/1992 is on the album At the Cat's Cradle, 1992, and a version from 7/22/2003 is on the album All Request Live. Additionally, a live performance from 10/31/1994 was included on Rotten Cheese, a semi-official live compilation.
Lyrics[edit | edit source]
The sky dripped in a demon sweat
The night she left
Wrapped up in a blanket
And I’m feeling wet
They said she flew from the goals in her life
That she went like blood from a knife
I’m here, and it’s all so clear now
The wind flows and it’s blowing cold
And I’m still here
Gripping onto what’s not around
Now it’s all so clear to me now
Now I know sometimes I try a bit too hard
And I can’t let go of you[2]
